Atwal Returns to Crusaders

SHERWOOD PARK, AB – Arjun Atwal has rejoined the Sherwood Park Crusaders after being released from the Saskatoon Blades.

Atwal, a '99 born forward, scored 31 points in 33 games with the Crusaders in the 2016/2017 campaign prior to being recalled by the Blades. The action marked the first junior hockey of Atwal's career following a successful two-year stint with SSAC Athletics of the AMHL, where he picked up 55 points in only 35 games.

“Coaches (Manah and Woywitka) and I met with Arjun yesterday and he is excited to be back and get going,” said Crusaders general manager Kyle Chase.

Atwal rejoins a very different Crusaders squad than the one he left just over a season ago. With a younger team up front, the forward will be relied upon for experience and leadership both on the ice and in the dressing room.

“He may only be 18 years old, but his experience is vast and he will come in as a leader. Having the numbers he did with us last year as a 17-year-old rookie excites us, especially with his potential numbers he can put up. Most importantly, he wants to be here and we want the player and the person. He sees what we are building and is very excited.”

Atwal is expected in the Crusaders lineup this Thursday, as they take on the Grande Prairie Storm at 7:00 pm. The game can be viewed on HockeyTV or at Average Joes Sports Bar.
