Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders were back on home ice on Saturday night to face-off against the Olds Grizzlys.
Arjun Atwal scored early on, but that goal was soon disallowed after Olds defenceman Hoon Kim had knocked the net off. However, it didn’t take much longer for Atwal to get his name on the boxscore. The Crusaders captain skated almost the length of the ice and fired a shot by Ty Marcinkowski and beating him to make it 1-0. The Grizzlys did respond, midway through the opening period. Hunter Floris beat Jordan Frey in the Crusaders goal for his 12th of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
It was then a quiet second period for both teams with only one goal being scored. Atwal got credit for that one to scoring with 14 seconds left to give Sherwood Park a 2-1 advantage heading into the intermission.
To start the third period, Logan Bromhead tied the game up at 2-2 with his 11th of the season. It wasn’t then until the 12-minute mark, Jarred White tipped in a Michael Benning (University of Denver) 13th goal of the season and then added his 14th with an empty-net goal to make it a 4-2 final.
Between the pipes, Frey made 19 saves to get his 9th win of the season.Next up, the Crusaders stay on home ice and take on the Camrose Kodiaks on Friday night. Tickets are available here.
