Sherwood Park, AB: Sherwood Park Crusaders captain Arjun Atwal finished the regular season with 107 points which led the league in points throughtout the regular season.
Atwal is the third Crusaders player in AJHL history to win the award. Grant Reszewski led the league in 1982/83 with 123 points, and Reese Rolheiser achieved the same feat in 2008/09 with 88 points.
The 20-year-old is in his final season with the Crusaders, and he has netted a total of 107 points (35G, 72A) in 54 games this season. This was aided by a 22-game point streak that dates back to Dec. 22.
The captain?s on-ice presence and driving force have also earned him the Most Valuable Player award, which was announced earlier this week. He is the first Crusaders player to win the award since Peter Quenneville in 2012.
Atwal – who made his 200th AJHL appearance earlier this month – will leave the Crusaders as their second all-time in points scored. In four years, the centre has scored 86 goals and added 146 assists for a total 232 points. He says that he is happy to have made a positive impact on the franchise.
