Bylin backstops Crusaders to bounce back victory

Sherwood Park finishes off their first back to back set of February with a split against the Drayton Valley Thunder.

Tuesday’s affair, in the Omniplex, ended in favor of the Thunder. Mitchell Joss opened the scoring for the Cru, and Michael Lovsin extended the lead, but Hunter Price collected two goals on the powerplay to force extra time. Overtime solved nothing, and Jackson Berry stopped all three Crusaders shooters while Moe Hakim iced the game in Drayton Valley by a score of 3-2. Lochlan Gordon made the start, stopping 32 shots in the loss.

The following night back in Sherwood Park, a lower scoring matchup that saw the tides turn. Evan Arnold put the Cru up 1-0 from a Cale Ashcroft shot just under eight minutes in, and that was all the offense the game saw until the third period. Jaron Desnoyers capitalized on a flurry of chances from Roman Cherniak and Mitchell Joss, Kadyn Chabot found the back of the net to cut the lead to 2-1, but Gus Bylin shut the door after that; making 34 saves in a one goal decision.

Sherwood Park now revisits the Bonnyville Pontiacs for a home and home set, starting Friday February 4th.
