Clegg Commits to Robert Morris University

SHERWOOD PARK, AB – The Sherwood Park Crusaders are proud to announce '00 forward Garrett Clegg has committed to the Robert Morris University Colonels (NCAA, Div I) for the 2020/20201 season.

“We couldn't be more happy for anybody than we are for Garrett,” said Crusaders general manager Kyle Chase. “He's worked hard at his two-way game; he's always been a guy that can shoot the puck, but he's turning into an excellent two-way player. To have (Garrett) get a scholarship at a great school, we couldn't be happier.”

Since joining the Crusaders full-time in the 2017/2018 season, Clegg has developed a reputation as a timely one-shot scorer. The St. Albert, AB product currently sits second on the team in both goals (8) and points (16) since returning to the organization after a short stint in the USHL. In 73 career AJHL games – all spent with the Crusaders – the 5'11 forward has registered 27 goals and 49 points. In addition, Clegg has scored six game-winning goals, leading the team in that category over the past two years. In 2017/2018, Clegg was named to the AJHL All-Rookie team.

“I committed to Robert Morris University because I believe it’s a great fit for myself and my family,” said Clegg. “They move players onto the next level and are consistently at the top of there division. Their campus is also very impressive, with great faculties. Overall it was just a great fit for myself.”

Since joining the NCAA in 2004, the Colonels have developed into one of the most highly-regarded hockey programs in Division I. Led by Derek Schooley since their inaugural season; the organization has earned a reputation for success, making the AHC semifinals five consecutive times and raising three championship banners since 2013/2014.

Clegg represents the fourth Crusader to earn an NCAA Division I scholarship during the 2018/2019 season, joining Brett Wieschorster (University of Vermont), Carter Savoie, and Michael Benning (University of Denver).

The Crusaders wish to congratulate Garrett and his family on his outstanding achievement and his numerous contributions to the organization, both on and off the ice.
