Clegg scores game-winner in return

A battle between two teams who aren’t off to the starts they anticipated this season—the Crusaders labouring to a 1-1-2 record and Olds winless at 0-3.

The Crusaders coughed up a shorthanded goal 1:56 into the game, with Colby Wolter capitalizing on a puck boggled at the blue line by Tyler Jette.

Another power play opportunity saw Arjun Atwal add to his scorching start to the season with another goal. That one was set up by a returning Garrett Clegg and Michael Benning.

Tied after 20 minutes the Crusaders may have been outplayed in the second, but Garrett Clegg ripped one past Duncan Hughes—who was phenomenal in this hockey game—for his second point of the game. He slotted in seamlessly on that top line with Atwal and Savoie.

The difference in this game came in the third period on a Grizzlies power play. Brett Wieschorster stole the puck in his own zone and took it on a breakaway down the ice, putting it through the five-hole of Hughes. That ultimately iced the game for the Cru. Clegg added an empty-netter to cap a three-point night.

The Cru is back in action on showcase weekend with a Thursday afternoon date with the Calgary Canucks. The puck drops at 4:30 p.m. at the Encana Arena in Camrose.
