Cru strike out Thunder with 6-3 win

Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders completed back-to-back home wins last weekend, ending with a 6-3 victory over the Drayton Valley Thunder in the Cru?s last home game of the month.

The home side showed their strength on the power play to take the lead halfway through the first period. Will Zapernick (University of Alabama-Huntsville) bagged his third goal in as many games, firing in Arjun Atwal pass from close range.

Jacob Franczak played an important role in the second period, grabbing two goals and assisting for Jarred White (University of Alabama-Huntsville). Henry Wagner scored for the Thunder to deny Jordan Frey a shutout.

The Thunder had been in good form prior to Sunday?s game, and they did not want to make things too easy for the Crusaders. Jeremy Klessens netted twice to pull his side within one goal of tying the game.

However, there would be no need for overtime. Blake Sydlowski and Arjun Atwal?s empty netter secured a 6-3 win for the Crusaders, who are now 38-6-0 this season.

The Cru now face a five-game road trip and will play three away games in a row, starting with Friday?s visit to Drumheller. The team will be back in Sherwood Park on Feburary 8th to take on the Grande Prairie Storm.
