Crusaders Acquire Brendan Kuny

SHERWOOD PARK, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders are proud to announce the acquisition of Brendan Kuny (’02) from the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in exchange for Jaron Desnoyers (’04) and future considerations.

“Adding Brendan to our organization is a big step forward,” stated Cru head coach Evan McFeeters. “He is a proven winner and will be a good leader. Brendan plays the game at a high pace and has the ability to score goals while making our group tougher to play against.”

“We are thrilled to bring home a character young man who makes our team better.”

“Anytime you can add someone like Brendan, who just finished winning a WHL Championship and played in the Memorial Cup with the Oil Kings to your dressing room is a big deal,” echoed general manager Adam Sergerie. We feel like he will have a big impact not only on the ice where I feel like he isn’t given enough credit for how skilled he could be, but he can also be a leader in our room and in the community.”

“It’s exciting that Brendan, who is a local kid that played his minor hockey in Sherwood Park, gets to play out his final year of junior hockey at home in front of his friends and family members.”

Kuny has spent the past three seasons with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL, collecting a total of 14 points (4 goals, 10 assists) through 76 games. This season, Kuny also contributed a goal and an assist through ten playoff games en route to the Oil Kings winning the WHL Championship. Kuny additionally played in two of the Oil Kings games during this year’s edition of the Memorial Cup.

In between his time with the Oil Kings, Kuny plied his trade with both the Drayton Valley Thunder and Fort McMurray Oil Barons. Over his 29 games in the AJHL, Kuny potted 13 points (4 goals, 9 assists).

The Crusaders would like to welcome Brendan and the entire Kuny family to the organization.
