Crusaders acquire Bryks, McKinnon from Melville

SHERWOOD PARK, AB – The Crusaders have acquired '97 D Kole Bryks and '97 F Ryan McKinnon from the Melville Millionaires of the SJHL for future considerations.

The moves come one day after the Crusaders acquired '97 D Brendan Kallis from the MJHL.

On the moves, general manager Kyle Chase said, “Both of these players will be looked upon for their leadership (as veterans) for the season to bring along a young group of players.”

Bryks, 20, played last season with the Millionaires, picking up four assists with the organization. the 6'2, 225 pound defenceman has previously spent time with the Spruce Grove Saints and the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the AJHL. In addition, Byrks has played with the Vancouver Giants of the WHL.

“He (Bryks) brings size and stability to our young defence core,” said Chase.

McKinnon, also 20, joins the Crusaders after splitting last season with the Calgary Canucks and the Spruce Grove Saints. In the 2016/2017 season, McKinnon scored 29 points in 52 games, a total which included 11 goals. He has also spent time with the Whitecourt Wolverines in his four years in the AJHL.

“(Ryan) brings a solid two way game to the Crusaders; he competes hard in both ends of the rink,” said Chase of the transaction.

Both players are expected to be in the lineup Wednesday at noon, as the Crusaders take on the Camrose Kodiaks in preseason action at the Encana Arena.
