The Sherwood Park Crusaders have acquired 1999-born forward Cody Laskosky (New Norway, AB) from the Olds Grizzlys in exchange for 2000-born defenceman Blair Bush (Edmonton, AB) and future considerations.
“We felt like we could get one of the premier offensive players in the south and add more depth to our forward group,” said general manager Kyle Chase. “We are looking forward to getting a little better up front and add more depth to our group. Cody (Laskosky) brings an element to the game that’s extremely offensive, and has a good shot from the right side plus can play on either wing. We’re extremely excited to have him on board.”
Laskosky, 19, was the Grizzlys highest scoring player through 12 games with 4 goals and 11 points. He has also collected 8 penalty minutes this season. Last season, the New Norway, Alberta native split time between the Grizzlys and the Whitecourt Wolverines after being traded in mid-October.
The 6”0”, 160 lbs forward has played in 114 AJHL games scoring 29 goals and 82 points. Before his junior hockey career began, Laskosky played for the Sherwood Park Midget AAA Kings along with current Sherwood Park Crusaders assistant captain Brandon Wallis.
“Blair Bush is a great defenceman who has been a part of our organization since he was 15-years old. It’s tough to see a player of his calibre and character go to another team,” said Kyle Chase. “It’s difficult to see players like Yakimchuk, Whillans, and Bush leave the program after being such good character guys for us”.
The Sherwood Park Crusaders would like to thank Blair for his services to the team and the community. We wish him the best of luck for the future.
Fans can catch the Crusaders in action on Friday against the Spruce Grove Saints. That game will be streamed live at Average Joe’s Sports Bar in Sherwood Park. They are at home the following night against the same opponent. Tickets are available here.
