Crusaders Acquire Derek Pys

SHERWOOD PARK, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders are proud to announce the acquisition of defenceman Derek Pys (’02).

“Derek was highly recommended by our consultant Mike Ellis,” stated Crusaders general manager Adam Sergerie. “Derek is coming off a year where he had a lot of team and personal success. We’re very excited to add Derek to our lineup and we expect him to be a leader for us this year.

“Derek is very good at getting the puck moving in the right direction,” echoed Crusaders head coach Evan McFeeters. He can transition pucks by skating from pressure and has the ability to find teammates up the ice. We are happy to be adding a mature player who moves well and can defend hard.”

Pys has spent the past two-and-a-half seasons with the Cambridge Redhawks of the GOJHL. Through his time in Cambridge, Psy played in a total of 102 games, including playoffs, and collected a total of 67 points (19 goals, 48 assists).61 of those came in the 2021/2022 campaign, in which the Redhawks captured the GOHJL Midwestern League Championship. That season saw Pys earn both the GOJHL (Midwestern) Best Defenseman Award and a selection as a GOJHL (Midwestern) First All-Star Team.

The Crusaders would like to welcome Derek and the entire Pys family to the organization.
