Crusaders Acquire Joss from Wolverines

Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders have acquired forward Mitchell Joss (2001) from Waywayseecapoo Wolverines (MJHL) in exchange for forward Zafir Rawji (2001) and defenceman Brandon McCartney (2002).

“We are thrilled to be adding Mitchell Joss,” said General Manager & Head Coach Adam Manah. “This is a deal we have been working on for a month now, and to say we are excited is an understatement.”

Joss is heading into his fourth year of junior hockey after spending the last three season in the MJHL and NAHL.

His career began with the Dauphin Kings in the 2018-19 season were he played in 40 games scoring 16 goals (5 goals, 11 assists). Joss then was moved to the Winnipeg Blues for the 2019-20 and had a career season scoring 30 goals and 71 points in 57 games. Due to COVID and the cancellation of the MJHL season, the Winnipeg native moved south of the border to play for the Minnesota Wilderness in the NAHL. In six games with the Wilderness he scored a single goal.

“Mitchell (Joss) is a player that brings it all,” continued Manah. “He is smart, skilled, crafty with the puck, competes hard, and probably his biggest attribute is he can score goals. He is a player that has put up great numbers at every level, and we fully expect him to be a guy that is going to have a big impact on our line-up in 21-22. We welcome Mitchell and the Joss family to the Crusaders.”

Heading the other way in the trade are Zafir Rawji and Brandon McCartney. Rawji was in the second stint with the Crusaders after they reacquired him from the Olds Grizzlys. Last season in 20 games, the Edmonton native scored five goals and 12 points, which were the most by a forward.

McCartney was in his first season of junior hockey last season after joining Sherwood Park from the Winnipeg Wild program. The Winnipeg native dressed in 12 games for the Crusaders, scoring one goal and four points.

The Crusaders would like to thank Zafir, Brandon and their families for their time and commitment to the organization and wish them the best of luck in the future.

They’d also like to welcome Mitchell and the Joss family to Sherwood Park.
