SHERWOOD PARK, AB – Sherwood Park Crusaders have acquired ‘99 F Tyson Scott & ‘01 F Brett Wieschorster (Vermont Commit) from the Drumheller Dragons in exchange for ‘00 D Aiden Yakimchuk & ‘99 G Josh Brindza.
“We’re really excited to have both players in our organization,” said General Manager Kyle Chase. “Tyson (Scott) and Brett (Wieschorster) are both big guys, and we felt that we had to address the situation where we didn’t have enough physicality upfront.”
Wieschorster, who stands at 6’2” and 185 lbs, is a Sherwood Park native heading into his second season in the AJHL. He last played in Sherwood Park back in 2016 with the Minor Midget Squires where he led the team in points with 47 (26 goals, 21 assists) in 34 appearances. In 51 games for the Dragons last season, Wieschorster scored 13 points (2 goals, 11 assists), with 65 penalty minutes, and in the postseason he scored one point in eight games. In November, the Sherwood Park native committed to the University of Vermont of the Hockey East in NCAA’s Division One.
Also heading north to Sherwood Park is ‘99 born forward Tyson Scott. Scott, a native of Calgary, Alberta, stands at 6’2” and 195 lbs and is entering his second full season of AJHL hockey. He had an impressive rookie campaign with the Dragons scoring 44 points (13 goals, 31 assists) in 56 games and was the fourth highest scorer on the roster. Scott followed up his strong regular season with three assists in nine postseason outings.
“It’s a tough day. Both Aiden Yakimchuk and Josh Brindza have both been very good people and players for the organization. We wish them both the best of luck with the Drumheller Dragons,” Chase said.
Crusaders fans can watch Scott, Wieschorster and the rest of the team in action on Friday, September 14th at the Average Joe’s season opener party, or the following night at home against the Drayton Valley Thunder.
