Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders have acquired defenceman Max Wutzke (1999) from the Chilliwack Chiefs in exchange for future considerations.
“We’re excited to bring Max (Wutzke) into our organization. He’s a shutdown defenceman who possess great skating abilities,” said General Manager Kyle Chase. “He was injured for the majority of last season in the BCHL, but when he returned he quickly became one of the best defencemen in Chilliwack. Max is now fully recovered, and we’re looking forward to having him be a part of our organization.”
Wutzke is a left-handed shot defenceman from Calgary, Alberta. He has spent the last three seasons in the BCHL splitting time between the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and the Chilliwack Chiefs. The 5’11”, 190 lbs defenceman played 115 regular seasons games in the BCHL (98 with the Silverbacks, 17 with the Chiefs) and also has 13 playoff games under his belt. During that time, Wutzke scored 18 points (2 goals, 16 assists) while collecting 103 PIMs. He also played one game for the Calgary Canucks back in 2016.
“I am really excited for the opportunity to join the Crusaders and become a leader on this team,” said Max Wutzke. “I have a lot of experience in junior hockey both on and off the ice. I had an injury in 2018/19 that kept me out for nine months so now I am ready to get back and bring what I know to the Sherwood Park Crusaders”.
Wutzke played his minor hockey at the Edge School Prep of CSSHL. In 2014, he was selected to play for Team Calgary North in the Alberta Cup who then went on to win the tournament.
The Crusaders would like to welcome Max and the Wutzke family to the organization.
