Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders got into the win column last versus the Whitecourt Wolverines in their second game of the preseason.
It was a tight first period with neither goaltender allowing a shot by them. It wasn’t until midway through the game that someone was finally beat.
Cade Christenson found an open Evan Arnold, who then did the rest and scored to make it 1-0 Crusaders with a shorthanded goal. Sherwood Park doubled their lead shortly after when Christenson made a great offensive play to find Logan Hauer back door to make it 2-0.
Ashton McNelly gave the Crusaders a 3-0 cushion in the third period with just over 17 minutes to play. Whitecourt answered back with two late goals, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Crusaders.
Marek Pocherewny was named the Sherwood GMC Buick player of the game after a stellar 33 save performance.
Next up, the Crusaders travel down highway 21 to take on the Camrose Kodiaks. They’ll be back in action at the Randy Rosen Rink on Sunday against Camrose at 7:00 p.m.
