Grande Prairie, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders won comfortably over the Grande Prairie Storm Friday night, with Carter Savoie (University of Denver) leading the way.
The forward got the game rolling early in the first period, netting two goals in under four minutes. William Zapernick (University of Alabama-Huntsville) and Arjun Atwal assisted each of the goals.
Grande Prairie got on the scoresheet thanks to Brent Loukus, but the joy was short-lived. Ty Ettinger scored his first goal in a Crusader uniform, with Savoie and Jarred White (University of Alabama-Huntsville) providing the helpers.
White then turned goalscorer to make it 4-1 to the Crusaders. Zapernick and Savoie got the assists on the No. 86?s goal.
Then on Saturday night, Carter Gylander (Colgate University) stopped 24 shots as the Sherwood Park Crusaders shut out the Grande Prairie Storm 4-0.
The Cru took the lead with 33 seconds left of the period. Atwal fired the puck past Kaeden Lane, with Zapernick (University of Alabama – Huntsville) and Michael Benning (University of Denver) assisting.
Benning got himself on the scoresheet in the second period. Savoie (University of Denver) and Atwal provided the assists to improve their points streaks.
Atwal would be involved in the third goal, assisting once again. This time, Zapernick grabbed a goal. The forward has now netted seven goals in his last eight games for the Cru.
Jacob Franczak rounded off the scoring with an empty netter towards the end of the game. The win sees the Crusaders end their five-game road trip with a 4-1 record, rounded off with two consecutive wins over the Storm.
