Crusaders come from behind to beat Saints

The Sherwood Park Crusaders made their first trip to the Grant Fuhr Arena to take on the Spruce Grove Saints tonight,  as the Crusaders looked to pick up their seventh win in a row.

It did not start out so well for the travelling Crusaders. After a fairly balanced opening five minutes, the Saints turned the game up a notch scoring two goals 16 seconds apart from one another to get a 2-0 lead. The Crusaders fired back not so long after with a goal from Erik Miller for his sixth of the season. However, Spruce Grove responded scoring once more before the intermission from Brent Trentham to make it 3-1. after 20 minutes.

Following the Saints third goal, goaltender Matt Berlin turned his game up shutting the door on Spruce Groves' offence for the remainder of the game. With Berlin doing his job between the pipes, the Crusaders offence got themselves back into the game with a goal from Brayden Hyland. Braeden Stephen stopped Hyland's original shot, but he was able to pick up his own rebound to score his second of the season and the Crusaders second of the game.

The game continued to be a tight one with both teams having opportunities to tilt it one way or another.

With 9:03 to play in the third, a phenomenal pass by Carter Savoie by boards into the slot gave Garrett Clegg a clear lane to the goal. Clegg made no mistake and capitalized on the opportunity and tied the game up at 3-3. Seven minutes later, Clegg picked up the puck at centre ice and charged down the right side boards with speed. The Crusaders goalscorer drove inside and ripped the puck by Stephen short side to give the Cru their first lead of the game.

That final goal by Clegg secured the victory for the Crusaders giving them their seventh win in a row. These two teams will be in action again Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Sherwood Park Arena for the Crusaders annual Pink the Rink game. Tickets for the game are available here
