OLDS, AB – The Sherwood Park Crusaders picked up their season high, fourth win in a row Saturday night, defeating the Olds Grizzlys 4-1 on the road.
The win comes off the heels off a character building win Friday in Drumheller and brings the Crusaders win total to 16 on the season.
After allowing the opening goal 4:08 into the hockey game the Crusaders went on shutdown mode which included 24 straight saves from netminder Brandon Vogel.
The Crusaders responded well after allowing the opening goal, including three shots off the goal post.
Sherwood Park’s special teams helped them out for the second night in a row, killing off four penalties and scoring on their second power play opportunity with just over four and a half minutes to play in the first period, courtesy of Dylan Stewart.
The Crusaders would completely dominate the second period as they outshot Olds 15-8 and got their first lead of the game from Defenseman Tyler Pang, who made his return after missing 14 straight games.
Sherwood Park would head into the intermission up 2-1.
In the third period the Crusaders would pull away with a pair of goals in the first ten minutes as Forward Arjun Atwal would beat Grizzly Goaltender Andrew Henderson on the glove hand side coming down the left wing.
Forward Ryan Cox would score his team leading 24th of the season to put the Crusaders up 4-1.
The Crusaders will get a day off and begin preparation for a Wednesday date against the Saints in Spruce Grove.
With the win the Crusaders move to within one point of the Grande Prairie Storm, who have 35, for fourth place in the Viterra North Division.
