Crusaders Earn Point in Loss to GP

Grande Prairie, AB – It wasn't the result the Sherwood Park Crusaders were hoping for, but for the first time in three games the team was able to pick up a point as they fell 5-4 in overtime to the Grande Prairie Storm on Wednesday night.

Things started out great for the Crusaders as Forward Dylan Stewart scored the opening two goals in a span of three and a half minutes early on in the first period.

Grande Prairie would get within one before the end of the first

The Crusaders would see their 2-0 lead vanish as Storm Forward Dallas Comeau would score a natural hat-trick to pull Grande Prairie up 4-2 mid way through the third period.

There was no quit in the Crusaders as Forward Garrett Clegg scored with under six minutes to play to get within one.  Then with 0.7 seconds remaining in regulation, Forward Ryan Cox would tie the game at four and force overtime.

Both teams would get three shots in the overtime period, but in the final minute Storm Forward Connor Blake would be sprun on a partial breakaway and taken down by Crusader Froward Erik Miller, resulting in a penalty shot.

Blake who opened the scoring for the Storm, would take the puck at centre ice, vear to the left and come down on Goaltender Josh Dechaine and beat him upstairs on the catching glove side to win the game for the Storm.

The two teams meet again on Sunday afternoon at 2:15 at the Sherwood Park Arena.
