SHERWOOD PARK, AB – A wild back and forth game between the Sherwood Park Crusaders and Grande Prairie Storm resulted in a 6-4 victory for the Cru to open up the 2018 calendar year.
The victory clinched the season series for Sherwood Park over Grande Prairie with a record of 3-2-1 against the Storm.
Five Crusaders would register multiple points, including Forward Dylan Stewart netting a pair of goals and an assist.
Sherwood Park got the scoring started early as the Crusaders were able to convert on two of their first four shots against the Storm, courtesy of Dylan Stewart and Defenseman Payton McIsaac.
The two goal lead would be short lived as the Storm also scored twice on their first four shots on goal.
The Crusaders would regain the lead late in the first after Ryan Cox beat Storm Goaltender Charles-Olivier Levesque for his team leading 25th goal of the season.
Sherwood Park restored their two goal lead less than five minutes into the middle frame as Ashton Cassault was able to tuck a nifty back hand past Levesque.
The lead once again, would be short lived.
Grande Prairie answered back just over a minute after the Cassault goal to get within one, and then at 13:07, Zachary Okabe would tie things at four as he beat Crusader netminder Brandon Vogel over the shoulder from the high slot.
In the third period, the Crusaders power play would come alive with two goals, the winner from Garrett Clegg and the nail in the coffin from Stewart.
Along with Stewart, Clegg, Cox, Arjun Atwal and Ty Readman had multi point games.
The Crusaders went two for four on the power play and killed off all five Grande Prairie opportunities.
Sherwood Park resumes action Sunday afternoon when they welcome the Fort McMurray Oil Barons to the Sherwood Park Arena.
