Crusaders face comeback win, comeback loss in first half of road trip

Out of a possible eight points in these four games, Sherwood Park has secured three of them.

Tuesday’s contest against the Canmore Eagles didn’t start off the way the Cru had hoped, as Ethan Schaeffer opened the scoring on the powerplay just over halfway into the first. Through the next 40 minutes, the Crusaders battled back, including second period goals from Evan Arnold, Cale Ashcroft and Ashton McNelly. Levi Fesyk would go on to pot the empty netter, and Gus Bylin made 28 saves en route to a 4-1 win to open the four game trip.

The next night, Sherwood Park ventured out to Calgary to take on the Canucks. An uneventful first period saw no scoring, and the Cru outshot 10-3, but Caelum Dick ripped home his seventh of the season to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. While the shot clock quickly closed its gap, and eventually turned out in favor of the visiting side, Connor Martin stood tall and the Canucks were able to tie the game and take it all the way to the shootout. Justin Barker made it 1-0 for Calgary, and Daniel Roszival iced it to finish the game on a 2-1 decision.

The Cru continue their south division run in Okotoks on Friday, and Olds on Saturday.
