Crusaders Get Wins Over Saints And Kodiaks

Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders took away maximum points from their two games this weekend versus the Spruce Grove Saints and the Camrose Kodiaks.

On Friday, the Crusaders welcomed the Saints to the Sherwood Park Arena for the second time this season. It was a close contest until Sherwood Park opened up the scoring with three goals at the back end of the first period. Nick Magis burst by his defenceman and beat Maxence Duchesne for his fourth goal of the season. Then, Arjun Atwal netted a pair to take his tally to 18. Blake Sydlowski then came out and made it 4-0 early in the second. That goal was also the end of Duchesne?s night who allowed four goals on 12 shots. Tyler Palmer came into replace him. The new Saints netminder allowed one more goal from Jacob Kendall for his first Kendall added one more on an empty net to make three straight games that the Crusaders have scored six on the Saints. Between the pipes for Sherwood Park, Jordan Frey had an excellent night stopping 33 of 35 shots with the goals coming from Jordan Biro and Brett Trentham.


Sherwood Park then took Saturday off but was back in action on Sunday at the Encana Arena versus the Camrose Kodiaks. They found themselves down early after Sam Schoenfeld gave the Kodiaks the lead with his second of the season. However, the Crusaders did go into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead. Tanner Fincaryk got them on the board with five minutes to play in the period. Then, Carter Savoie (University of Denver) netted his 30th goal of the season on the powerplay to make it 2-1. Connor Hart scored late in the second to give them a two-goal cushion, and then Fincaryk scored on an empty net to make it 4-1. In goal, Carter Gylander (Colgate University) had a busy afternoon in his first start since returning from the World Junior A Challenge in Dawson Creek, BC. The Detroit Red Wings draft pick made 31 saves on 32 shots for his 17th win of the season.

The Crusaders are next in action on Wednesday night versus the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m. at the Sherwood Park Arena. Tickets are available here.
