Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders dug deep to get a result over the Bonnyville Pontiacs Sunday afternoon.
Either team?s first goal of the game came from power plays. Arjun Atwal scored the opening goal of the game, and Thomas Kramer tied it up soon after.
The Pontiacs kept up the pressure in the first period, and it paid off. Joel Ray fired past Carter Gylander (Colgate University) to give Bonnyville a 2-1 lead.
The second period started off ideally for the Cru. Jacob Franczak took advantage of a loose puck to equalize. However, Lucas Thorne scored over 30 seconds later to silence the home crowd.
Daine Dubois extended Bonnyville?s lead, but the Crusaders would not go down without a fight. Jacob Kendall scored from close range after Reid Irwin (University of Denver) and Ty Mueller (Omaha Nebraska) teamed up to assist. Jarred White (University of Alabama – Huntsville) levelled after he converted a deflected shot.
The Crusaders gained control of the third period. Will Zapernick (University of Alabama – Huntsville) got the Cru ahead again, with Michael Benning (University of Denver) and Carter Savoie (University of Denver) assisting his goal. Jacob Franczak rounded the afternoon off with an empty netter.
