This past weekend was a rollercoaster for Sherwood Park, but they can take some big positives from the last set of games.
Friday night, the Cru hosted the Brooks Bandits, after being shut out the previous two games and their opponents on a four game winning streak, outscoring teams 28-3 in the process. Ryan McAllister got the scoring underway off of a breakaway pass, and that was all the offence for 30+ minutes. Just 42 seconds remaining in the second period, Mitchell Joss capitalizes on a turnover and beats Max Beckford to get the Crusaders on the board. Joss would add another in the third to take a 2-1 lead, but McAllister ripped a shot past Lochlan Gordon to knot things back up. Just under three minutes into the overtime period, Caelum Dick finished off a nifty passing play to send Sherwood Park fans home happy with a 3-2 win. Gordon made 43 saves in the victory.
The following night in Fort McMurray, things didn’t exactly go the Cru’s way. After a scoreless first period with four combined shots for the two sides, Max McCoy broke things open for the Oil Barons. Austin Cook went bar down on Gabe Gratton to tie things up at one, but just under 11 minutes into the third, Chris Kobelka gave the Mob a 2-1 lead. Nick de Beurs would add an empty netter to give Fort McMurray a 3-1 decision.
Sherwood Park stays on the road and heads to Bonnyville on Wednesday to take on the Pontiacs.
