Crusaders Roll Mustangs 7-4

It was an eventful night at the Sherwood Park Arena on Saturday as the Crusaders and Mustangs combined for 11 Goals in Sherwood Park’s 7-4 victory over Calgary.

The game looked like it could be a tight one after the first 20 minutes with the Crusaders only leading 2-1.  Merritt Oszytko scored the Crusaders first Goal for the second straight night 1:53 into the first Period, while the Calgary Mustangs would equalize the contest courtesy of Yuri Chernichko at 14:20.

Much like last night, Sherwood Park would answer their opponents opening Goal quickly.

Darcy Zaharichuk scored his third of the season on a 2 on 1 that saw the Crusader veteran attempt a pass to Ryan Rebelato, only for the puck to go in the Mustangs net off a Calgary Defender.

Sherwood Park would come alive in the middle Period, after going u 3-1 on a Matt Dykstra Power Play Goal, the Crusaders exploded for three Goals 1:43 to take a 6-1 lead into the dressing room after 40.

The Mustangs would not quit in the third, even after Darcy Zaharichuk scored his second of the Game, as they scored three Goals on seven shots to make the score a little closer.

The Crusaders outshot the Mustangs 49-16 while Point Streaks were extended by Tanner Younhangs, Matthew Dyktstra, Cam Reagan, Merrit Oszytko and Alex Rotundo.

Jake Morrissey picked up his fifth win on the season.

The Crusaders improve their record to 25-16-1 and will take a four Game win streak into Wednesday’s Game against the Bonnyville Pontiacs at the Sherwood Park Arena.

Sherwood Park trails Bonnyville by three Points for fourth spot in the Viterra North Division.
