Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders move to 14-1-0 on the season thanks to back-to-back victories over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons this weekend.
In game one on Friday night, Blake Sydlowski got the Crusaders scoring early with this first goal in the black and green. Davis Murray and Max Wutzke picked up the assists on the goal with Murray getting his first assist of the season. Jacob Franczak followed up the Sydlowski goal with two for himself coming early in the second and then late in the third. Between the pipes, Carter Gylander (Colgate University) put together a strong performance making 20 saves for his first shutout of the season as the Crusaders would win 3-0.
The next night, Sherwood Park’s offence came alive putting eight goals passed Chris Curr and Evan Fradette. Arjun Atwal, Jarred White, Carter Savoie (University of Denver) and Reid Irwin (University of Denver) all scored in the first period which resulted in Fradette replacing Curr between the pipes. The second period was much of the same with the Crusaders adding another four goals. Will Zapernick (University of Alabama-Huntsville) got his name on the scoresheet with Bryce Bader, Nick Magis and Savoie following him up. The Oil Barons did manage to get one by Jordan Frey – who made 12 saves on the night – from Max Johnson, but it wasn’t enough with the Crusaders winning the game 8-1.
Next up for Sherwood Park is a road game against the Whitecourt Wolverines on Tuesday night. They then return home for a pair of games on Friday night, against the Wolverines, and then on Sunday afternoon versus the Grande Prairie Storm. Sunday’s game will be the teams Halloween Game so all kids 14 or under wearing a costume can enter the game for free. Tickets are available here.
