SHERWOOD PARK, AB – Brandon Vogel made 30 saves en route to his first career AJHL shutout in Sherwood Park’s 5-0 win over the Drayton Valley Thunder Saturday night at the Sherwood Park Arena.
The win, was the Crusaders third in a row, something the club has yet to do all season long.
Sherwood Park would open the scoring 6:19 into the hockey game courtesy of Erik Miller, with assists from William Zapernick and Eric Blanchette.
The Crusaders added to their lead in the final 30 seconds of the opening period, as Dylan Stewart netted a goal for the fourth straight game.
With a 2-0 lead after one, Sherwood Park kept the goals coming in the second, as Forward William Zapernick scored a pair of goals just over 10 minutes apart.
The Crusaders took a 4-0 into the third period, Erik Miller would add his second of the night just over five minutes into the period.
The line of Miller, Zapernick and Eric Blanchette combined for eight points on the evening.
Defenseman Ben McLeod put up two assists giving him a career high in points in a season with 11.
With the win over the Thunder, the Crusaders wrap up the season series against Drayton Valley winning five of the six contests. Also with the win, the Crusaders move their record to 12-13-2 and now sit in fifth place in the division with 26 points.
Sherwood Park will get two days off before returning to practice on Tuesday as they begin preparation for a three game, three-day road trip starting Thursday for a pair of games in Grande Prairie and Whitecourt on Saturday.
