Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders are proud to announce the signing of forward Ashton McNelly (2003) for the 2020-21 season.
McNelly, 16, joins the Crusaders from the Midget AAA Fort Saskatchewan Rangers who play in the Alberta Midget Hockey League. The Westlock native was the captain of the Rangers last year and led them to a 15-13-4 record and the divisional finals before the season was cancelled.
? Ashton (McNelly) is a strong two-way physical player that has solid offensive capabilities,? said General Manager Kyle Chase. ?He?s a fearless player with excellent character and leadership skills.?
The 6?0, 176 lbs forward played in 32 games last season scoring a career-high 23 points (7 goals, 16 assists). McNelly blew he previous high of two points from the year before out of the water. During the Rangers playoff run, McNelly led by example scoring 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) in as many games which was tied for first on the Rangers and second in the AMHL.
McNelly dressed in one game for the Crusaders last year against the Okotoks Oilers on December 11th at the Sherwood Park Arena.
The Crusaders would like to welcome Ashton and his parents Brandy and Tate and the rest of the McNellu family to the organization.
