The Sherwood Park Crusaders were hoping to carry their momentum from back to back wins over the weekend into Wednesday’s matchup against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
Ryder Matter opened the scoring with a wraparound goal just over 10 minutes in, but Ashton McNelly gets a deflection in front to tie the game at one a piece before the period runs out. Taige Harding scored the lone goal in the second on the powerplay, and it was all Oil Barons from there. Fort McMurray went on to score three more, including an empty netter, to finish with a 5-1 decision and take their third game in a row, both in general and against the Crusaders. Gus Bylin was more than solid, making 39 saves in the loss.
The Cru now host the Drayton Valley Thunder on Friday for their fouth game in the five game homestand, puck drop is at 7:15 p.m and can be watched on hockeyTV, or at the Randy Rosen Rink.
