Crusaders Soar Past Eagles

The Sherwood Park Crusaders made amends for their blunder on opening night with a 6-2 victory Sunday afternoon over the Canmore Eagles at the Sherwood Park Arena.

The Crusaders got off to a great start scoring the game’s first goal, which was the team’s first on home ice in 2016-17, just over two and half minutes in courtesy of Forward Matthew Dysktra who banked in shot from below the goal line off an Eagles Defender and past Goaltender Ryan Bontorin.

The Eagles would answer back late in the first period when Forward Braden Saretsky would burry a breakaway past Crusader Netminder Dorian Laganiere-Labranche to tie things up heading into the intermission.

Sherwood Park would bounce back however in the second with three goals in a span of just under eight minutes.

Forward Tyler Maltby lead the charge with a pair including a fantastic breakaway tally on an incredible feed from Defenseman Chase Torontow.  Tanner Younghans would score in between Maltby’s Goals with a nice set up from Alex Rotundo, who had three Points on the afternoon.

In the third, Sherwood Park would put the game out of reach when Tanner Younghans scored his second of the game on the Power Play giving the Crusaders their second man advantage goal in the game.

Both teams would trade goals there after as Daylan Marchi would convert on the Power Play for the Eagles, Merritt Oszytko would restore the four goal lead for Sherwood Park redirecting a Ben Sowa point shot past Bontorin.

The Crusaders saw great efforts from top to bottom including Goaltender Dorian Laganiere-Labranche who made 42 Saves in his AJHL debut.

Sherwood Park will get a day off before preparing for the Spurce Grove Saints who make their second appearance at the Sherwood Park Arena on Wednesday.
