Crusaders split first weekend at home

The Sherwood Park Crusaders have officially played a weekend series at the Randy Rosen Rink, and came out with mixed results.

Saturday’s matchup was the second in two games against the Whitecourt Wolverines. Having previously beaten them 4-1 on October 13th, the Cru went in with a bit of an advantage. Ashton McNelly opened the scoring with the first home powerplay goal of the year, Caelum Dick continued his stellar month, potting two goals (including the overtime winner) and Gus Bylin made 24 saves en route to a 3-2 victory.

The affair on Sunday against the Bonnyville Pontiacs had a bit of a different outcome. Again the Crusaders scored first, this time thanks to Josh Rule’s second of the season, but Kash Rasmussen responded just 24 seconds later; Sherwood Park pressed hard in the second half, but Bonnyville didn’t look back, finishing with a 4-1 decision. Bylin made his second start in as many games, and made 31 saves in the loss.

The Crusaders are at home to the Spruce Grove Saints on October 22nd before heading back out on the road to Drayton Valley on the 26th.
