SHERWOOD PARK, AB – The Sherwood Park Crusaders kicked off their weekend set of games with their second straight victory over the Grande Prairie Storm, 6-2 the final Friday night at the Sherwood Park Arena.
Forward Dylan Stewart score twice for the third straight game, with a pair of goals in the first period as the Crusaders opened the first twenty minutes with a 2-1 lead over the Storm.
Sherwood Park would come alive in the second period with a pair of goals courtesy of rookie Forwards Garrett Clegg and William Zapernick, both occuring on two odd man rushes. It would be a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes for the Crusaders.
The Crusaders would add to their lead early in the third when Forward Jacob Franczak would tuck home a partial breakaway opportunity, putting Sherwood Park up 5-1.
Grande Prairie would get their second of the night past Brandon Vogel, who made 30 saves in the win, when Dallas Comeau would score a short handed marker after the Crusaders turned the puck over in their own zone.
Eric Blanchette would get the Crusaders only power play goal of the game off a rebound from a William Zapernick point blank attempt.
The two teams will meet next week in Grande Prairie for a pair of games. Sherwood Park will host Drayton Valley for the third and final time this season at the Sherwood Park Arena on Saturday night.
