Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders came away with four points over the weekend after to successful wins over the Calgary Canucks and Canmore Eagles.
Their first opponents were the Calgary Canucks on Saturday night. The Canucks were coming into the contest following back-to-back losses against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons and Spruce Grove Saints in consecutive nights.
Sherwood Park found themselves down 2-1 heading into the first intermission. Connor Hart got the lone goal for the Crusaders but was cancelled out with goals coming from Leighton Burns-Marion and Dylan Clark for Calgary. However, a strong second period for the Crusaders helped them get a stranglehold on the game. Blake Sydlowski, Arjun Atwal, and Carter Savoie (University of Denver) got them a two-goal cushion and a 4-2 lead which is how the game would finish. Between the pipes, Jordan Frey turned aside 29 of the 31 shots he faced to secure his 14th win of the season.
Not even 24 hours later, the Crusaders were back on the ice against another South Division opponent, the Canmore Eagles. Things were much different from the night before as Sherwood Park jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Reid Irwin (University of Denver) scored a pair of goals on the powerplay to take his tally to six on the year. Then, with 36 seconds left, Atwal fired a one-timer by Devin Chapman for his 23rd of the season. Hart and Savoie added a pair in the second, and Canmore answered back with a goal from Owen Reith. The Crusaders did score once more in the third when Tanner Fincaryk scored with 52 seconds to play.
Next up, the Crusaders are in action versus the Whitecourt Wolverines on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available here.
