Joss ties game late, Cru fall short in shootout

The return to the Randy Rosen Rink was not a kind one for the Cru.

Just over five minutes into the first period, Danny Ciccarello opened the scoring for Fort McMurray on a shorthanded breakaway. Almost a full 20 minutes later, Nick de Beurs made it 2-0 Oil Barons. Just over six minutes into the second period, however, Evan Arnold began the come back. Cale Ashcroft tied the game on a powerplay goal, and the two teams would proceed to trade goals and head into the final frame tied 3-3. Rider McCallum took the lead for the Mob again on the powerplay early in the third, but less than a minute remaining, and Mitchell Joss jammed a loose puck home to knot the game back up at four a side. Overtime solved nothing, and Ciccarello ended up being the winner in the shootout as the Oil Barons took the extra frame 2-1, and walked away with a second consecutive 5-4 win in the Sherwood Park Arena.

The Cru are back for a weekend set against Canmore and Calgary, on January 21st and 22nd.
