CAMROSE, AB – A two goal second period helped the Camrose Kodiaks edge out the Sherwood Park Crusaders 3-2 in the only game in the AJHL on Tuesday night.
The loss in Camrose was the second loss in a row for the Crusaders as they end the month of January with a record of 5-5-0.
Things looked good early as rookie Forward Garrett Clegg would score his 16th of the season only 3:44 into the first period.
Sherwood Park’s only lead of the hockey game would be squandered just under three minutes later as Tyler Schendel tied things up at one.
In the second period the Kodiaks would score a pair of goals starting at 11:03 and 18:06 courtesy of Colson Gengenbach and Colby Wolter, giving Camrose a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.
The Crusaders made things interesting in the third period as Arjun Atwal would make it 3-2 and get Sherwood Park within a goal at 14:06, but the Crusaders could not complete the comeback at the Encana Arena.
Sherwood Park went 0 for 4 on the power play while the Kodiaks were 0 for 3.
The Crusaders will return to Sherwood Park for a few days before heading out to Brooks on Friday for the first of three games on the first weekend of February.
