Michael Benning Earns Crusaders Top Defenceman Honours

Michael Benning has been named the recipient of the 2019/2020 Crusaders Top Defenceman Award.

The 18-year-old has shown that he is one of the best defensive players in the league. He led all AJHL defenceman in points (75) and assists (63). He was also the second-highest scoring defenseman in the goals department, picking up 12 tallies throughout the season, trailing only Brooks? Tim Rego. As a reuslt, Benning was named the league?s Outstanding Defenceman for 2019/2020.

Benning has also been the centre of attention across the league and Canada. A projected pick in this year?s NHL draft, No. 4 joined teammate and fellow St. Albert native Carter Savoie at the CJHL Prospects All-star game in Hamilton, Ont. at the start of the calendar year.

Benning will join Savoie at the University of Denver next season, as the pair have committed to play for the Pioneers next season. Defenseman Reid Irwin has also committed to the same team.
