BONNYVILLE, AB – Things looked very promising for the Sherwood Park Crusaders when they opened the scoring 30 seconds into their Sunday afternoon contest against the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
However, the Crusaders were unable to get anything past Pontiacs netminder Sandro Silvestre after Kole Bryks score his first of the season to open up the hockey game, Silvestre turned away 32 Crusader pucks.
One of the biggest factors in the game was the Crusaders inability to capitalize on the power play, going 0 for 8 on the man advantage Sunday.
The game would be close heading into the third period with the Pontiacs up only 2-1, but goals from Riley Smith, a shorthanded marker from Mason Fischer and a power play goal from Adam Sandstrom elevated the Pontiacs to a 5-1 win.
Crusader Brandon Vogel made 33 saves on 37 shots in the loss.
The Crusaders return home to finish off October with games against Spruce Grove and Whitecourt this Friday and Saturday.
