Savoie named CJHL Top Rookie winner

Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders are proud to announce that Carter Savoie (2002) has been named the CJHL Top Rookie for the 2018/19 season.

Savoie beat out fellow finalist Alexander Campbell, Victoria (BCHL); Owen Murray, Portage(MJHL); Mitchell Weeks, Newmarket (OJHL); Bryce Young, Red Lake (SIJHL) who were also up for Top Rookie honours. He becomes the first AJHL player to receive the award since Cale Maker back in 2016.

In his first year with the Crusaders, the University of Denver commit scored 73 points (31 goals, 42 assists) in 58 games which led the team. Savoie finished fifth in league scoring and was the highest scoring rookie in the AJHL.

In February, the St Albert native was named the AJHL Rookie of the Year beating out fellow finalists Matthew Davis (Spruce Grove Saints),  Roc Truman (Drumheller Dragons), and Brady Parker (Okotoks Oilers) becoming the first Crusader to receive the honour since Andrew Luciuk in  1995. Savoie was also named to the Viterra North Division All-Rooke team along with his teammate Michael Benning.
