Sherwood Park Crusaders COVID-19 Statement

As many of you are aware, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced sports leagues around the globe to cancel events in the near future.

Unfortunately, that has now extended to the AJHL Playoffs.

Earlier this evening, the Alberta Junior Hockey League, in conjunction with Hockey Canada, announced that the AJHL Playoffs will be postponed until further notice as of March 13th, 2020. This means that the Crusaders previously-announced 2nd-round games this Friday (13th) and Saturday (14th) will not be played as scheduled.

“Without question, this is an unprecedented period of difficulty for the sports world,” commented Tom Renney, Hockey Canada’s chief executive officer, and Scott Smith, president and chief operating officer for Hockey Canada in a joint statement. “The health and safety of all participants in sport, including players, coaches, staff, officials, fans, family, volunteers and the general public, is of the utmost importance to Hockey Canada.”

“After much consultation with the Hockey Canada membership, our chief medical officer and public health officials, the Hockey Canada Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel all Hockey Canada-sanctioned activities, including our national championships, until further notice.”

As of this point, there has been no announcement of any potential return dates for Hockey Canada or the Alberta Junior Hockey League in particular.

Any tickets purchased in advance – whether playoff package tickets or single-game tickets – will be honoured upon the announcement of future games.

The Crusaders office will remain physically closed for the duration of the moratorium.
