SHERWOOD PARK, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders are proud to announce the signing of forward Diego Johnson for the 2023/2024 season. Johnson, a 2006-born forward, is currently committed to the University of Wisconsin (NCAA, Div. 1).
“I’m extremely excited to be part of such a great organization and team that’s building to be a contender,” said Johnson on his signing with the Crusaders. “With playing in the BCHL last year, I feel like having that experience is going to help me contribute to the Crusaders.”
“I am really looking forward to giving our fans an awesome season.”
“Diego is a Wisconsin commit, who chose to come to us from the BCHL and felt like this was the best place for him to take the next step in his development,” commented Crusaders general manager Adam Sergerie. “We feel Diego brings a skillset that compliments the way we want to play and will be a big boost to our lineup.”
Johnson, originally from Fort St. James, played last season with the Merrit Centennials of the BCHL. In his lone full season with the club, the 5’11 forward collected 19 points (12 goals, 7 assists) in 49 games. Before joining the Centennials, Johnson played as part of the Okanogan Hockey Academy program.
“Diego is a good skater, has a knack for finding scoring opportunities, and finishing them in a variety of ways,” Sergerie continued. “He can score off the pass, he’s a great on-stick shooter and can score in tight around the net. Diego also plays the game hard, doesn’t shy away from contact, and can play in congested areas of the ice.”
The Crusaders would like to welcome Diego and the entire Johnson family to the organization.
Sherwood Park hockey fans can catch their first glimpse of Johnson and the rest of the Cru on home ice this weekend, as your Crusaders take on the Spruce Grove Saints on September 8th and the Camrose Kodiaks on September 10th, both at the Randy Rosen Rink.
