FORT MCMURRAY, AB – It was a career night for Sherwood Park Crusaders Forward Dylan Stewart, as the veteran scored four goals in a 5-4 victory over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons on the road Friday night.
Sherwood Park was able to do something no other team has done thus far in 2017-18. Beat the Oil Barons in regulation in Fort McMurray.
A back and forth contest saw three lead changes between the Crusaders and Oil Barons, Fort McMurray struck first at 8:52 of the first period courtesy of Domenico Argento.
The Oil Barons would take a 1-0 lead into the dressing room while outshooting the Crusaders 17-4 after the opening 20 minutes.
Stewart, and Sherwood Park would answer back in the second frame.
Crusader Defenseman Tyler Pang would tie things up at one just over a minute into the period, only to have the Oil Barons regain their lead 1:39 later.
Sherwood Park’s power play would play pivotal in the hockey game, Dylan Stewart scored his first of four at 8:30 on the man-advantage with Ty Readman and Ryan Cox picking up the assists.
Fort McMurray certainly did not go away, regaining the lead once again, 1:06 after the Stewart goal as Reed Morison netted his 14th of the season.
The Crusaders would get their first lead as Stewart would complete the hat trick in the second, scoring at 13:19 and 18:15 to give Sherwood Park a 4-3 margin after 40 minutes.
Both teams tightened up defensively in the third period as both the Oil Barons and Crusaders combined for 12 shots in the final frame.
Both teams would capitalize on the power play, as Jack Hamly tied the game at four for the Oil Barons at 9:30 of the third period.
The Crusaders would get the game winner on the power play as well, as Dylan Stewart completed a five point night on his fourth goal of the game to give the Crusaders a 5-4 lead in the late stages of the third.
Along with Stewart, three Crusaders had multi point nights, Garrett Clegg two assists, Arjun Atwal three assists and Ty Readman also had two helpers in the win.
Sherwood Park went two for three on the power play while the Oil Barons were one for two.
Both teams will square off once again on Saturday night in Fort McMurray, the game will be the final visit of the season for the Crusaders at the Casman Centre.
