The Maxwell Devonshire Realty Pregame: Crusaders vs Wolverines

Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders close out the 2019/20 season as they attempt to scratch out the Whitecourt Wolverines Thursday night.

The Crusaders go into the game with a few reasons to celebrate. The Cru will end the season top of the AJHL North Division and have had their best statistical season in franchise history, but there is one more honour to add – Arjun Atwal is this season?s MVP.

The 20-year-old has had a brace of a season, leading the league in points and extending his point streak to 22 games. He may not be the only Cru player to hit 100 points in a season; linemate Carter Savoie (University of Denver) needs two more points to get the century mark.

The Crusaders have had a good track record against the Wolverines, winning four of the last five meetings. Atwal has ten points against Whitecourt (5G, 5A), while Will Zapernick (University of Alabama – Huntsville) and Michael Benning (University of Denver) have five assists.

Whitecourt?s offensive talent has not gone unnoticed, with some players already committing to ACAC and NCAA level. Captain Adam Sandstrom is heading to Edmonton to join the NAIT Ooks under the leadership of former Crusaders Head Coach Tim Fragle. Forward Ethan Leyer has committed to St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, and Cassidy Bowes has agreed to join the University of Connecticut.

Fans who wish to watch the game can do so at Average Joe?s on Baseline Road, which will be the final time before the playoffs. Puck drops at 7:30 P.M.
