The 2017 season saw Tyler Maltby, once again, lead the league in goals.
Once the campaign was up, Maltby totaled 38 goals across 49 games which were the fewest games played by anybody in the top 10 of scoring. While the former Crusader missed 11 games over the course of the season, he still managed to dominate in the goals category. We’ll never know, but if he had not missed those games, could he have potentially joined Mark Letestu in the 50 goal club?
Throughout the season, Maltby grabbed himself a single hat-trick which game against the Canmore Eagles in September. To go along with his hat-trick, he also had nine two-goal games.
With the season he had, Maltby put himself in the Crusaders history books. He currently sits on the all-time goals per season list twice. Once in eighth with his 41 goals back in the 2015-16 season when he played in 54 games and the other in tenth for his 38 goals last season.
Tyler Maltby was a phenomenal player for the Crusaders. There were really no better goal scoring threats in the league like him; he could score from anywhere on the ice. The team will miss him around the arena next season but we wish him all the best of luck with the NAIT Ooks. Don’t be surprised if he ends up in the history books there too.
